A roof is the most important part of your home because it is the main piece that protects the structure and everything in it. I know there are many types of roofs but I want to take a moment and focus on asphalt shingles.
Hail Damage
Depending on the state you live in, hail could be a big part of your seasons or it could be few and far between. Either way, if it happens it really could wreak havoc on your shingles. Hail can actually bruise, crack, and even puncture your roof. Having this type of damage will shorten the life of your roof and bring it to failure at a faster rate. If you suspect hail damage it must be taken care of immediately.
Wind Damage
Every area has winds at one time or another. If you walk outside and notice any missing shingles, shingles that are lifted up, or shingles flapping in the wind, you have wind damage. This requires immediate attention. If your shingles are coming off your roof, leaking will soon follow and that’s where the trouble begins. It is so important to walk around your home and do an inspection after any storms just to ensure no damage has occurred.
Other Roof Concerns
If you find your shingles are:
- Curled
- Cracked
- Missing Granules
It may be time for a roof. Also, if you have active leaks and/or you notice major wear or discoloration then a new roof is on the horizon.
If you have hail or wind damage your homeowner’s insurance will allow you to submit a claim, but it does come down to your insurance policy and coverage for any compensation.
There are certain times when a new roof is urgent and others when you can plan for that investment. Either way, we are here to help you and answer any questions you may have.
